15 DAYS BIRDING UGANDA

 

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Hotel in Mabira.

Day 2: Early in morning after breakfast, we start birding Mabira Forest and back for lunch. We shall go back for the evening birding and spend the night at the hotel.

Day 3: Drive to Murchison falls National Park with a lunch, break in Masindi town. After lunch we drive 90km in the park to a hotel in the heart of the park reaching in the evening for an overnight stay.

Day 4: BIRDING IN MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK (SAVANA BIRDS / WATER BIRDS) We shall have a drive early in the morning and bird up to lunch which shall be at the Hotel after lunch we shall have a launch ride up stream R-Nile to the bottom of Murchison falls, coming back late in the evening to hotel for night stay .

Day 5: Drive to Kibale National Park via Budongo Forest where we shall stop for 3 hour birding, and continue to Kibale forest National Park to a hotel for an overnight.

Day 6: BIRDING IN KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK
Early morning after break fast we shall start birding most forest bird species are found here with the famous, African green pit though not easy to spot as other forest birds. This can be a full day birding and back to hotel for an overnight stay

Day 7: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, start birding after Katunguru and Armie at Hotel late in the afternoon for an overnight stay.

Day 8: BIRDING QUEEN ELIZABETH
We shall have a morning drive after breakfast and do birding in the plains coming back for lunch.

After lunch we shall have a boat ride for water birds. Remember Queen Elizabeth is the park with the highest number bird species in Uganda with both indigenous and immigrants. After the ride we shall come back to hotel for an overnight stay

Day 9: Travel from Queen Elizabeth National park to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. We shall pass the southern sector of queen Elizabeth called “Ishasha sector” to the Headquarters of Bwindi Impenetrable National park famous for mountain Gorillas arriving in the afternoon to hotel and do some evening birding around.

Day 10: BIRDING IN BUHOMA (BWINDI)
Early morning after breakfast, we shall start birding right form the hotel. Get informed that Bwindi is one of the richest forests in special bird species in Africa. It has over 360 bird species including 23 out of 24 Albertine endemics. This makes it a special birding place and for this matter we shall bird in all its three sectors i.e. Buhoma, Ruhija Rushaga.

The special bird species in the forest include the ;.
1. Short tailed Warbler 12. Chestnut threat apalis
2. Gravers warbler 13. Mountain musket apalis
3. Kivo ground thrush 14. Blue headed sun bird
4. Red faced woodland 15. Yellow eyed black fly catcher
5. Gravers rush warbler Mubwindi’s 16. White failed crested fly catcher
6. African Green broad bill Swamp 17.Orber lands ground thrush
7. Red throat elithe 18. Dusky cromsam wing
8. Stripe breasted sun bird 19. Shelheys crimson wing
9. Purple breasted sun bird 20.Rwenzori Turraco – Rushaga
10. Collected Rwenzori Apalis 21. Archers Robin Chart
11. Rwenzori Batis

We shall have lunch in the forest and come back late in the afternoon, drive to Ruhija for an overnight stay .

Day 11: BIRDING IN RUHIJA (MUBWINDI SWAMP TRAIL).

Day 12: Drive the southern seat of Bwindi (Nkuringo) arriving at 1:00pm, have lunch, after visit the cultural centre and enjoy Uganda's multi cultural shows through theatre art, story telling and others. The day ends with a cool drink at Hotel.

Day 13: BIRDING IN RUSHAGA
Early in the morning take the waterfall trail. Here we shall go with parked lunch as we shall return to Hotel late at around 7:00pm for an overnight

Day 14: DRIVE TO MGAHINGA GORILLA NATIONAL PARK
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park also has over 16 Bwind’s special birds species. This becomes another chance of discovering those species that were not seen in Bwindi.

Rwenzori Turraco which is not easily seen in Bwindi is easily spoted here. After a long day we shall drive back to Nkuringo in case some of our members had gone for Gorilla tracking or to a hotel in Kisoro town.

N.B days 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 may give chance to those interested in Gorilla tracking but miss one day birding as all the three sectors have Gorilla tracking and can also be easy to track Gorillas in DRC Congo when you are in Nkuringo sector

Day 15: Drive to Kampala then Entebbe with a lunch stop in Mbarara for an evening flight .
