Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport. Pick up and transfer to Goma in DRC for overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking in Bukima sector park Nationale de Virunga (former Albert cook National Park). Leave early morning from the hotel . Arriving at around 8:45 at the park. You will first receive a briefing, tracking starts by 9:30am latest. You will spend up to a maximum of 6hrs tracking the gorillas and sometimes 30minutes.once with the gorillas, you will only be allowed a maximum of one hour with the Gorilla. Latest by 7:00pm you are back in Goma at the Hotel (one of the Hotels on Lake Kivu).
Day 3: Early morning after breakfast you are taken around Goma that takes you up to the green lakes in Sake about 15km from Goma town. You will see for yourself how lava covered almost half of the town in 2002. By 11:00 am, you will be driven to the base of Mt.Nyiragogo one of the active volcanoes. Once at the base, you will be given a briefing and by 11:30am you will start your trek with some porters to carry your tents. Nyiragogo is 3470m and it takes between 5 to 6 hrs to get to the top. At the top, its all camping don’t expect to take a shower, though there is a field pit latrine for nature’s call. At night, you will be able to see the boiling magma and take good pictures.
Day 4: Early morning, you descend at the base by 10:00am .You will be picked at the base and transfer to the hotel for lunch. The whole afternoon you will relax at your hotel with a beautiful view of Lake Kivu.
Day5: Early morning after breakfast, travel back to Kigali for onward flight. While in Kigali, you can visit the Genocide memorial site depending on your flight schedule or stay one extra day and enjoy the beauty of Kigali one of the cleanest cities in Africa.
