Uganda’s past has been characterized
by brutal killings during IDI AMIN’S regime in the 1970’s.The
liberation struggle of 1979 by Tanzanian forces did not change
the situation until a new revolutionary struggle, led by the
current President His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, from
1981 to 1986 liberated the country by guerilla warfare. Uganda
has not been the same since then. |

Museveni was sworn in as a President
in January 1986 and has since stabilized the country’s
economy and security. Uganda has turned into a shopping basket
for the region in all sectors such as commerce, education
and more.
Uganda will host the common wealth heads of states meeting,
who’s acronym is CHOGHM, in NOV 2007. Aside from CHOGHM,
Uganda has hosted other big international events. Additionally,
the President has spearheaded peaceful resolutions of regional
conflicts. He is the current chairman for the peace initiative
for Burundi and has finally agreed to peacefully negotiate
with the leaders of the lord resistance Army to help end the
suffering of the people of Northern Uganda.
Uganda now is moving towards 100% total security where one
can visit all parts of the country without fear. This is a
big step towards development and poverty alleviation as now
helping organizations can work directly with communities.
Uganda, formerly the “PEARL OF AFRICA” but now
known as “THE GIFT OF NATURE”, has a lot to offer. |
